Covering letter

When should a covering letter be used ?

The covering letter is not only an indispensable document when you are looking for a job ; it is also required and/or recommended for :

• Admission to some schools or university programmes
• Access to some training courses
• To back up a reference or a coopted position

In some cases, a covering letter can be sent alone, although sending a CV alone is not a very effective way of getting a job. It is always the CV which is sent along with the covering letter and not vice versa !

For unsolicited or speculative applications, the covering letter can be enough to convince your correspondent to meet you...
